Adrenalize

Though it is not the best record of Leppard, it brings me memories, since it is the tour I attend so long ago...17 years ago. It is a catchy record, the last with Clark's magic, not counting Bsides great record Retroactive...

I always had an expensive reason not to buy this record, but with a deluxe version i do not mind paying just a little more, since for the songs, it is well worth the money.

Favourites? White lightning, Have you ever (the song which convinced my girlfriend) , Stand up, Tear it down... there's not a bad song in the whole record.

And a double with B sides is highly appreciated though i think i own most/all of them

Historia & In the round in your face

I own singles, records, vhs and dvd from Def Leppard. This compilation is great.
Historia is all their video collection until Hysteria. Not as great as Kiss x-treme, since explanation is written on the screen, but nothing else. It could have been awesome, and it is just great.

In the round in your face is the concert they did in the Hysteria tour. Pyromania + Hysteria. I saw them in the '93 Adrenalize tour. It was not bad at all, but I liked too much pyromania and they only did 4 songs, forgetting the awesome stagefright.

Let's mention as well 'the Def Leppard story' a film which is the story from Def Leppard until Hysteria. Awesome, I think every metal fan should see it. It is a film. It is well worth, really. Thanks to internet I saw it.

Hysteria

This one is believed by many as a classic. Even people who do not like hard rock/metal consider this one the best of their discography. It is true, this one made Def Leppard take off, but does not mean it is the best... however it is good enough.
Women, rocket, animal, love bites, hysteria, gods of war ...

I always prefered pyromania to this one, and my favourite is high n'dry.

Thanks to JL who brought it to me directly from Japan, yes, another japanese record.

If you are not sure if you can go to hard rock, this one is a good start.

euphoria

i guess this was an attempt to recover after slang experiment. did they succeed? well, i would say partially ...
there are good songs, definetively: opener demolition man is a powerful rock song. and it is great. promises and back in your face are interesting since they manage to keep the new lepp spirit back. goodbye is the ballad. not a bad one, but nothing to do with tonight, love bites or bringin' on the heartache ... just acceptable. then we arrive to what i find the masterpiece paper sun. this song is guaranteed to blow your mind away. it has all i like in a song, power and feelin'. the rest of the record is maybe too experimental to me... but at least, the first side was good enough...

so, a group has to evolve and you can not write pyromania II, this i understand. as long as they are delivering good songs i would love this band, and paper sun is such a damn good song :-D

slang

i remember when i bought this record. i was waiting for the D-day, and being a 2CD collection edition i did not think twice. after the first listenings i remember thinking ... what is this exactly? it is def leppard but does not sound as any of lepp. records... :-( i was a bit deceived, and i recognize this is not what i listen most ... anyway it is def leppard (but casualties of steve clark and pete willis) ...
all i want is everything is the ballad that makes the record. and the angry-badmooder song, deliver me is also powerful. blood runs cold and slang are decent songs.
the style change was definitely not a success...
fortunately the next record recovered the original logo ... again this is another story.
the second cd is an acoustic in singapour with 6 songs. someone to explain me, why the hell it did not include the whole concert ... 8 songs, so just 2 more songs... so you know who's to blame ;-) ...
don't get me wrong, i love def leppard, but this is somehow strange ... however i recognize the band is able to do what they want and i do not feel bretrayed because i liked more their original style :-D

high'n dry

strange cover, but that was the group wanted when signed by hipgnosis. anyway, def leppard's here influenced totally by ac/dc ... maybe it had something to do the previous gig they did as supporters ;-)
the stuff here is awesome. i mean, all the songs are heavy, with great riffs, melodic and you can go rnr... just one ballad, a great power-ballad, and it is great too. a small instrumental switch 625 with is great too. no fillers. 0% fillers. this is really difficult to get matched. this is probably my favourite lepp record.
I guess the group was beginning to get its own musical identity.

The songs are: Let it Go, Another Hit and Run, High 'N' Dry (Saturday Night), Bringin' on the Heartbreak, Switch 625,You Got Me Runnin', Lady Strange, On Through the Night, Mirror, Mirror, No No No and as bonus a remix of Bringin' on the Heartbreak and Me & My Wine.

10/10 timeless classic

Def Leppard singles

Being a Def Leppard's collector is hard... so I gave up after taking in mind that it would be expensive, and not always ... (hardly ever) would find what I was looking for. At least I have some cool stuff. Here it is:

Have you ever needed someone so bad is the typical ballad it will always please your girlfriend. Sorry girls ;-). It is nice.
But the one that I like most is the slow From the inside, in which I guess the band was thinking in Steve Clark ...
You can't always get what you want is a nice RS cover, and Little wing, a Hendrix cover is not bad at all.

Heaven is, as the last one are Adrenalize songs. Good one too.
She's too tough will come in Retroactive, as well as From the inside.
the other 2 songs are live renditions, from alice elected and the first track from adrenalize, let's get rocked.

when love & hate collide. a great song. A real power ballad. Of course I can get blamed from hm ... but, who cares ;-)

Excitable, rocket, armaggedon as Hysteria remixes ... absoultely forgetables.

Slang. from Slang, not a bad song but a really strange one. At least for Def Leppard. A total change of style.

A nice couple of ballads: Can't keep away from the flame and When love and hate collide (piano & string version). Neither indispensable.

Retroactive

Interesting record. B-sides and leftovers from Hysteria & Adrenalize sessions. Though i find it as good or even better than the multiplatinum highly acclaimed Hysteria.
Desert song, they said this one was left over because lyrics had not been find for it ... the song is magic, strong... followed by fractured love, again another song that fits 100%, with hypnotical rythms and dark voices.
Action is the cover song, faster, and it is just ok. But 2 steps behind, as acoustic it brings great melodies and nice arrangements.
She's too tough, faster again, it is ok, again... miss you in a heartbeat, again romantic piano ballad, nice.
Only after dark and ride into the sun are not favourites for me but not bad songs either, but the following From the inside, touched me deeply, what a wonderful song!, I guess it was written for Steve... and then Ring of fire, which with the first one are the true gems of the record..
I wanna be your hero, great song too, and as a bonus 2 different versions of the 2 ballads, great

B-sides & leftovers???

Interesting cover too. The logo is darker as it had never been on the other records, always colourful

Pyromania

My first contact with this record was in '93 . I just was seduced by this kind of heavy metal/hard rock, and needed to know if Def Leppard were enough good or not to miss a concert in 17 days. I also went with my girlfriend, who just missed the concert of her life due to an examination ... but that is another story ... ;)
I borrowed from a friend Hysteria & Pyromania, and i liked the second one most, though i embraced the two records nearly instantly... 2 weeks ago i've seen a documentary vh1, ultimate albums... and i agreed, this is a truly good record, an ultimate one.
Foolin, comin' under fire, die hard the hunter, stagefright, rock of ages, photograph (dedicated to marilyn), too late for love, billy's got a gun...
Too polished? Hard rock with fury, feelin', composition, hooks, melody, great class, great solos, great production, Mutt pushed the boys to their limit, and they did great enough...
It was the same year than Canterbury, 83 ... I still see the 2 records fabulous, but sometimes, the producer/record companies could make the difference. Luck? Well, you have to be in the place in time, and you never know... Do the records need to get support? well, todaayy, i do not think so, too much money is wasted in marketing ... just make the record, and if it is good, people will buy it, go to a concert ... At least this is my thinking

By the way believe it or not, it is not my favourite from lepps, and i still have some others 10/10 for this band ;-) ... Maybe i like them :-D
